PHONEPAD.INI is a vital configuration file that is used by PhonePad. It tells PhonePad how to connect to your PhonePad database.  It is automatically created when installing PhonePad and setting up the connection.  When PhonePad is installed locally on a workstation, PHONEPAD.INI can be located in one of five locations. These locations can vary, depending on the version of Windows on the computer PhonePad is running on.

PHONEPAD.INI will normally be created in the same folder that PhonePad is located in. However, sometimes this may not be possible due to Windows access rights. In this situation, it will be created in one of these folders:

  • The Program Files folder, eg. C:\Program Files (x86)\PhonePad
  • The Common Application Data folder, eg. C:\ProgramData\PhonePad
  • The Local Application Data folder, eg. C:\Users\Andrew\AppData\Local\PhonePad
  • The Common Documents folder, eg. C:\Users\Public\Documents\PhonePad

PhonePad will check each of these locations automatically. There is no need to tell PhonePad where PHONEPAD.INI is.

To find out where your PHONEPAD.INI is located, we have developed the PhonePad Configuration File Locations utility.  It will display all of the possible locations on the computer PhonePad is running on, as well as the actual location (unless it can¡¦t be found in any of these locations).

You can download the utility here.
